To Save a Sparrow

I was in the Great Room, when I heard something hit the window. I looked
out and there lay a sparrow. Of course I had to pick it up and hold it.
He tried to fly, but couldn't so I picked him up and took him
to the steps to the deck and sat with him in my hand.

I looked on the ground ..not far from me..and a movement caught my eye.
It was a toad?frog? and he was on his back..kicking his feet. I then saw
some blood on him. I thought a hawk had gotten him & dropped him.

as I look closer......

I notice a SNAKE is attached to the frog..
OH MY GOSH..
I'm scared but I run for the camera.

If you are brave, you can click the pic to enlarge..

I never did see the frog's head..and eventually he slithered
under the steps with the frog in his mouth.
Mr. Sparrow did not make it either..he passed away not
long after the accident. Air Traffic Control isn't here to
yell at..the sparrow did it all himself. Poor guy
poor frog...poor Deena
I'm to freaked to go walk in my yard now.
I HATE SNAKES

It's a woman thing, dating back from the Garden of Eden

Awe...poor sparrow! And those frog/snake photos are just gruesome! I know it's natures way but wow!! I'm glad all that is going on in your yard and not mine!!

Deena,

Sad that the sparrow flew into the window and sad that it happens to all kinds of birds on a daily basis.

I saw a snake in my yard this year and though I will walk along the path around the yard, I keep my eyes peeled and check carefully before sticking my hands in the garden to weed or harvest.

Hope you are well.
Blessings,
Mary

Oh, I'm so sorry. I hate it when any of God's creature's die. I hate snakes, too. They always take you by surprise. And I hate that he ate the toad. What a day for you.

Poor frog even though I don't like frogs I am sorry the snake got him. I don't like snakes either! At my work birds fly into our glass windows all the time. Only a couple have died, most just knock their self silly for a while, then fly off.

Awww. I am so sad that the little sparrow didn't make it Deena. Birds are hitting my window every day and I'm always looking out to make sure they are okay. I can't believe that snake got that frog into his mouth, with the way it was all bloated up. I like frogs and snakes. I don't like to see one eating the other but that is nature. Great photos though Deena! That little garden snake won't hurt you..Ha! Be well.

YUK!!!!!
I remember seeing the snake/frog thing also...I REALLY don't like it when I'm doing a bit of weeding and THEN I see a snake right by my hand...I too 'DON'T LIKE SNAKES'...I just drop everything and GIT!!!...
Sorry 'bout the free fall with the sparrow, but I have a thing about them since they KILL my bluebirds in their homes!!! Can't stand the Sparrows...
Okay Ms. Deena...back to work...
Always...M

I know snakes eat prey much larger than them...but geez that frog was HUGE!!!! Poor guy! There was probably something wrong with the frog, because normally they can get away from snakes with ease. So he was probably not well to begin with to be eaten. He is much bigger than the snake...make sense?

Oh Deena! You poor thing! Nature can be so cruel. I can relate... a few years back I was watching a mother bunny nurse her baby in my garden, amazed that she would let me be so close, when a raven swooped down and stole that little baby. I never heard a rabbit scream before. I followed the raven hoping that he would drop the baby and I would catch it, but the raven flew away... I guess the raven had to feed his/her babies, too.

Enough morbidity, let's focus on our blessings and joys :)

Poor Sparrow and poor frog, no I wasn't brave enough to enlarge the photo in fact I had to skip past a little quickly! I loved the Humming Bird videos on your earlier posts, what delightful creatures they are and so tiny! I hope you are keeping well :)

It is hard with birds, I have never been lucky with keeping them alive when they get hurt. We had a nest of little mice hiding out back and one day I went to see if they were still there and there was a nest of snakes in their place, the laws of nature.

Though that was so totally gross, I am amazed to see how God provides for every creature, even those that we deem yucky!
I really enjoy your pictures and am wondering what kind of camera you have.
You have such a variety of birds, etc, where you are.
I saw an Oriole today migrating, I believe...I love their colors.
Keep posting~such beauty and talent.
