Morning visitor

Yesterday, Tuesday, I saw MY DOG run by the front window early in the AM. I ran out to get her back in the fence~but all I saw was a small DEER.

I talked to the babe & it just stood listening.

Today when my friend ran past, I knew it wasn't my

dog, so I got the camera.

We have some type of crab apple tree in the side yard, BIG for crab apples, but

seems my fawn friend likes to eat those.

I couldn't see the spots until I took my pictures.

My collie can look a bit like a fawn..so you see why I'd be tricked.
I am hoping to see my lil fawn again.
Tis Autumn weather here
I love it!

Can't you just SMELL these roses.
It's finally turned cooler here at night.
I love sleeping with "Night Music"
sometimes it's Barred Owls
always crickets
frogs & some nights late ..we wake up
to the howling of coyotes..I love the sound
but scares me too.
School has started here and only two of my
six grandsons aren't old enough for school.
Wow, it makes it easier on mom's during the day.
I'm looking forward to long walks as the weather continues
to cool and the leaves begin to turn.
I'll be Autumn decorating starting Sept. 1st and
I plan to post some pictures
Time for bed, I'm up early weekdays now

Another Hummingbird Picture

I love this picture, I was sitting at the window seat in my"creating room" aka
the BIG MESS & there he was (she)..I had the camera right there, so I snapped
this pic. It's far away & thru the screen, but I love it!!
I don't know how folks get pics of a feeder full of hummers, my hummer family runs everyone off, even the chickadees~ He didn't even use to let his own wife get any food~guess he never learned to share.
Last night hubby & I went for an evening walk with our Hannah dog. One of the
horses at the stable came to the fence to visit & my dog got so jealous when she
saw me petting & cooing. Next time I told Rich he has to take a camera. Maybe
I'll get him to take a pic of my horse friend and me!

kept flying around me.
I finally decided I'd best get THEIR pictures too
ENJOY
They are so fun, friendly & BOLD

It's AUGUST

Some great news, Simply Primitives artists will be having a "Harvest Thyme"
auction on eBay from Sept 10th-17th
We'll have LOTS of great items for you.
Dana of PrimitivesbyDana even made a banner & an auction template
for all us to use.
**
~*~
Some facts about the "Dog days of August"
August is the time for a Hummingbird show, lots of hummers out there, the new crop of youngsters too. Keep your feeders full as lots will pass on their way south.
American Goldfinch are just beginning to raise their babes. They like to nest as the bull thistle produces seeds. They line their nests with it's down & it's seed is the major source of food for their babies!!
Look for the Perseid Meteor Shower from 8/11 to 8/13
find the spot in your area & see 10-30 meteors an hour

IT's HOT HERE

My goodness, it's been a LONG time & hot
Here's one picture of our fireworks
We had BIG ones!!
I even took a picture of one of the baby toadies, I have sooo many. I found them when
they were really tiny!! Had to let them grow so I wouldn't hurt them when touching them.
We have a had big time raccoon problems, they are knocking down all the feeding
poles & tearing up my feeders. Not sure what to do, except bring all the food in
at night. UGH!!
It's been so HOT & dry here, not my kind of weather.
I recently started listing some things on etsy
hope you'll check them out AND bookmark my
store
More coming, we got NEW plants for the shade garden

Wow, this week went fast. Last weekend hubby and I headed off to the Nursery (Garden, we don't need no babes) to replace a bush.
We got a neat one ..and a Japanese Elm for the back
AND
this fun fountain. I know he wanted a great BIG one, but I said lets wait till we sell the old house!!
I love the sound of water when I'm on the deck.
I read that birds can hear a drip for TWO miles.
Here's a picture of an Indigo Bunting visiting the feeder. I love them!!
We had HUGE fireworks on the Fourth. I'll post one picture of that soon.

It's July

The Hollyhocks are almost done blooming. That means SEEDS for next year.
If you'd like some seeds, I'd love to share.
I moved this old plow, which was brand new when I got it at an auction, into the side garden. I was tired of the raccoons using it to climb up to the bird feeders. Darn FAT critters, they tear the feeders up to get to the seed. I can't figure out why they don't just go fish at the pond ..it's full of yummy fishies for them to eat.
I spotted a TEENY little toadie this weekend too, about the size of my little finger's nail. I am going to try to get a picture of him tomorrow. He's just an itty bitty.
Hubby went to Indianapolis for the Formula One Race and brought home LOTS of fireworks.
Our youngest daughter has invited her friends for the 4th and told them to bring their fire extinguishers..Oh My , with all the woods we made need them.
Hope you all have a celebration & remember our soldiers who are fighting for our FREEDOM

Mama Wren

Oh my..I waited & waited for her to go into the birdhouse
but all she'd do was chatter at ME to go away. Here's
either mom or dad sitting on the fence close to the birdhouse
waiting for ME to leave.

This is the NEstle in the Singing Woods too!

A GREAT Friday

Well it's a beautiful day here~~and I finally got some
creations done too! Woo Hoo
I love the kitties, from a pattern by Chris of Walnut Ridge.
Her patterns are always fun!! I have most of them.
Kitties are for sale on eBay right now.
I had to show ya my daughter's youngest boy too!! CALEB, he's Cole's brother.
He's QUITE a snicklefritz too. Not near as cuddly as Cole & quite the bully!
OMG, but is he EVER cute & smart. I love to just hug him , but he's not so fond of all that!
BUT, he LOVEs birds, just like me, so we sure do have fun birding!!
He always wants to pet them..tee hee
I'd BEST go pick up my creating room, tis a mess. Enjoy the weekend
& check back soon.

Grandma's Weekend

Grandma, yep !! That's me. My oldest daughter's oldest son, COLE came to visit this weekend. We had a great time, he loves to help garden. We watched alot of Sponge Bob too!!
Here's just a few of my hollyhocks and that sweet little red head is my sweet CoLe.
He's so loving , I can get lots of hugs and kisses & he NEVER EVER EVER wants to go home, or so he says :>) I think he'd pack his bags & stay with "Grandma Deena" any time!!
I've been working on a new pattern by Walnut Ridge, I'll be posting a pic as soon as I finish!! Chris is one of my faves~!~ and I will be working on a wonderful pattern by Deerfield Farmhouse, but I have to find just the RIGHT fabric. Christine is my all time favorite & I have collected all her patterns. Even if I don't make them all, I LOVE them as a collection.
It's late & I need my beauty rest
Check back soon.

OH mY it's Wednesday already

I can't believe I haven't posted in so long. Today my first hollyhock bloomed appeared. My minature hollyhocks are in bloom also, I think they are called Marsh Mallows. I also took this picture of one of my wonderful roses to share, didn't notice the ants in the blooms, but I love it!!

Nature depending on nature, and the colors of the roses are so mixed. This one isn't fragrant but it is pretty!

My little Carolina Wren is busy taking care of babes, not sure how many she has, I can only hear a tiny peeping inside the birdhouse. They must not be big enough to look out the opening yet. I plan to sit quietly out there with a camera to get a picture.

We have LOTS of lil chickadees around lately too, tiny new ones! Such fun.

Oh , my Hannah dog, ran off Monday morning, after a day of searching for her, she is NOT street smart..I called the animal shelter 25 miles away. She was THERE, got picked up about 10 miles from home on the HIGHWAY. She had a hunk taken off between her eyes and all she did was sleep on Tuesday, what an ordeal. I won't trust her outside of the fence again.

Last night when I took the garbage cans out at dusk, I could here the Wild Turkeys in the woods..gobble gobble and late..coyotes again. Good thing I'm not scared

Hubby was away for work, so I watched MOVIES!! YEAH
Kill Bill 1
Kill Bill2
When a Stranger Calls
and stayed up LATE
in bed to watch!! That's a treat for me

Well, I didn't get anything done for SimplyPrimitives.com
but I will start making things for next month NOW.

It's the first of the Week

Hubby bought this "Squirrel go Round" and Mr. Blue Jay decided to come by & check it out.
He's sitting on the cob & he's scared off the other birds. Pretty easy pickin's for him.

This is an old baby swing that I hang from the deck & it holds my scented gerainiums. The Tufted Titmouse likes to grab some bird seed, then go to the swing to eat. I love how he can hold the seed in his feet as he eat.

I am patiently (LOL, not) waiting for new things to bloom.

The hollyhocks are FULL of buds , they should be so pretty!! I planted 20 PINK Lily of the Valley plants this past weekend & some of them have sent up leaves with buds already. I'll be posting pics as soon as they bloom. I've never seen pink blooms before!!

The Barred Owl is calling (sounds like wooo cooks for you) so I'm gonna go see if I can get him to talk back to me~~ they usually do.

Thanks for stopping by, Deena

Weekend Happenings

I love the way my new bird house from Country Rustic looks atop the arch. You can find her work on SimplyPrimitives.com. I sure hope we get birds to nest there. It's very close to where the Carolina Wrens are nesting & where the Robin's nested earlier this Spring, so I'm thinking it's a good spot.

Here's my little Hummer guy, he's a Ruby Throat, which is all we get here in Illinois.
He sits on this one branch that has no leaves so he can see his FEEDERS. I read the males will often perch where they can see their food source and will fight off others looking for food.
Tee HEE , lil guy , but thinks he's tough.
I planted lots of new things this weekend. I'll be posting pics as things begin to bloom.
Sunday evening I worked setting up the store for the Bath & Body Works, semi annual sale, lots of fun things on sale. I'll be going in early on Monday to SHOP!!
I listed some great mache cones on eBay & I have some larger ones I'll be finishing up also.
I got a new pattern from Walnut Ridge I'll be making the first of the week. Looks so fun!!
Be sure to search SPSG on eBay to see all the great primitives!!
HubbY just came down , cuz he heard coyotes yipping he's gone outside to ??see?? them ..EEEEKKK.
I'm gonna go jump in bed and read a bit , my favorite thing to do before sleep.
More coming soon

Here's my sweet Grandson & my Hannah dog

She is so gentle with the grandboys & such a good doggie,
she is my constant companion..and barks the deer for us
in the MIDDLE of the night..teehee

Hope ya don't think "UCK" as Toadie is my gardening buddy. He's always by my garden hose waiting in the mornings. It's also a bit shady & damp there, so I'm sure it's cool for him too.
Boy do we have chipmunk friends too, this lil guy is under the hostas grabbing the bits of bird seed on the ground. One of the family tunneled under some Cosmos seedlings I just got started..ggrrrr...they still seem to be growing , but if they don't I'm gonna go yell at him!!
I never knew such a lil guy could make SO much noise. When my dog Hannah chases him he SCREAMS..oh my goodness..it's hilarious..he's so little but so LOUD
Today I planted 20 PINK Lily of the Valley pips and 4 Ostrich Ferns. Tomorrow I have 4 FoxGloves to plant & hubby says he wants to go plant shopping tomorrow..YIPPEE!! I am always ready for that.
Tonight it's "girl's nite out" ..us three girls. the dog, cat and me are on the porch with music and LOTS of candles..it's so cool out , and I have screens to keep the skeeters off me. The laptop sure comes in handy for porch parties!!
I didn't get that lovely birdhouse photographed today, but I will!! It's a treasure.
OH one last thing , my delphiniums are in BLOOM, lovely!!

Thursday, June 01, 2006

As promised here's pictures of the butterflies, the top one is a Tiger Swallowtail & the bottom one is a GREAT Tiger Swallowtail. There were 4 of them flutter around on the fleurs. I went out to take a pic & they just fluttered around & got so close. They were beautiful & I had not seen any of these since I was a TOMBOY. LOL

These are flowers in baskets on our back deck, seemed they liked the petunias best. Even my friend Mr Hummer likes these.

Today was cooler & a bit of rain this afternoon, BUT I finally mastered hubby's camera . It takes WAY better pics than mine.. Hum, he'll have to share now.

Tomorrow two more of my garden friends will be posted

and the WONDERFUL new birdhouse I got from Jen of Country Rustics, love it!!

Oh ..the OWL's are HootinG out in the dark, I love to hear them.

Pleasant dreams, night

Tues & Wed the last of May

I had to show ya the poor old birdhouse I had in the backyard. It was left here by the previous owners & it was on a tree. I sure didn't like the way it hung there, and I hate to throw away birdhouses, so I moved it to a Sheperd's Hook in my side garden.

One slat was missing from the roof, but two days after I moved it , Carolina Wrens moved in. I saw the twigs hanging out the side of the ROOF. LOL

So now, she comes out when I water or fill the bird bath & chatters at me. The last time I had wrens nest in a box, it was about 4 feet high & in the middle of the herb garden. I can't wait till the babes come, cuz they'll be cheeping at me to feed them whenever I walk anywhere near there. Too cute

It rained last night & I had to snap this pic of a rose I brought from the old house last Spring. It's in BLOOM, woo hoo, was so worried it wouldn't make it.

I not even sure which rose it is..HUM..I'll be searching tonight.

By the by, don't forget to check out

www.simplyprimitives.com

It'll be updated with new primitives in the AM.

Gotta go sit outside, the woods are singing

Happy Memorial Weekend

EGLANTYN

MME ISAAC PIERE

I got my new roses planted & the above pics show how beautiful they will be.
It's been so hot here, I tried to work in the early AM & just at
dusk in the yard.

I have some great "critter" pics to post tomorrow. My regular
friends, including "Toady" He hangs out by my garden hose!! LOL

Spent some time with my grandsons too, that's always so fun!! They
fought over who was sitting on which side of my lap. Lucky it's big
enough for two boys at once.

Tomorrow starts Summer Vacation for my daughter, I'm going to
use the extra time I have to start Yoga again!! If you haven't tried
Yoga , you should, it's so relaxing & good excercise with literally no
impact . It even keeps my from getting headaches.

Hope everyone had a fun & safe weekend.

Wednesday & Thursday

Here's the only all red bird in Illinois, the Summer Tanager. Even the Cardinal has other colors on him. This is the FIRST Tanager I have seen, ever!! Right here on the edge of the Singing Woods. He didn't leave when I opened the kitchen window to take his picture either!! woo hoo
Also visiting are male House Finch, Female House Finch & American Gold Finch.
Don't ya think it's funny that the animal & bird kingdom males have to be SO colorful & fancy in order to get the females to become their friends!!??
tee hee
I planted some "Mouse Ear" coreopsis & some BLUE delphinium today. Sure hope they thrive.
Working on the digging of the rose bed, they should arrive soon.
I also listed a couple of goodies on eBay today. Fun stuff for sewing & a little Make Do dolly.
Be sure to check out
for Simply Primitive artisans listings on eBay.
Tomorrow is the LAST day of school for Mercedes, my youngest , a junior in high school. No more running twice a day, hope I'll create more with the extra time I'll have. Here's a picture of her, isn't she gorgeous?

First of the Week

Monday was creating day, did a bit of sewing & gardening.
Sat with hubby on the deck for some bird watching & Mr. Hummer
decided to fly in to check us out. He stopped at each of the feeders, then went
to his fave lil branch to perch & spy!! LOL

Tuesday it was stock up on cleaning supplies. Went to my fave Target & got
cleaning ..some yummy candles . Even picked up a Shabby Chic under the bed
storage box, made of cloth. Now to decide what creating supplies to put in it.
It's beautiful here today. I got an email saying my roses are ON the WAY,
I've got a place on the side yard I'm turning into a small rose garden. Can't wait!!

Sunday Happenings

Today was a "Tour of Homes" My best friend and I have been doing this for more than 15 years. Older homes in a wonderful neighborhood. We had lunch & toured 7 homes. Then I came home & gave my roses some food .
It was a lovely day for being out and about.
No new birds today, but our usual
GoldFinches, Nuthatches, Downy Woodpeckers, Chickadees were all at the feeders!!
Here's a picture of the lilacs here at our home. They smell so wonderful, wished they lasted all
season.

Saturday News

Today was such a good day~started out with a siting of a Rose Breasted Grosbeak, then to the Art Fair. On to lunch, next to prim shops, quilt shop & home for desert. Ended with a siting of
a Summer Tanager (our first) . Tomorrow brings a Tour of Homes, which is always fun
